Well its about time, huh?  StageClick is now officially open for business world-wide.

Here's a list of all the new fun features on the click:

Locations

  • The old dropdown box with 3 cities in it has been replaced with a free text box, where you can type in the name of any city.  Doing so will filter your show, venue, and forum data within a 40 mile radius of that city.  This opens up StageClick to any other city/community that wants to get involved - especially once we start entering lots of new listings / credits from across the globe very soon.

Homepage

  • The homepage is no longer news-centric.  It now focuses on shows, people, and photos.

  • The new map gives you a spatial representation of data in the click.  Zoomed out at a country level, you'll see red dots on states/provinces that have show records.  Hover your mouse over the dot to see how many.  Click on the dot and it will bring you to the state/province level.  Here you'll see a red dot on every city that has show records.  Hover your mouse over it to see how many.  Click on this dot, and you'll jump to the city level.  Here you'll see green dots where a show is on stage this week.  Click on it, and you'll see the show name, dates, and image.

  • You can log in directly from the front page now.

  • You can now view a gallery of all new images that were uploaded by all users within the last month by clicking a link on the homepage.

Photos

  • We now store the original version of every photo you upload.  When you are viewing an image, you can click on it to see the full, uncompressed version.  (We did not store originals before, so you are welcome to re-upload any images you like) .  Also, now that we have a nice big server for storing all these images, we don't need to compress them so much, so you will notice that your newly uploaded images will look better than they did before.

  • Each photo will be cropped to a square thumbnail for display on the homepage (and later, other pages).  When you upload or edit an image, you will see a little square where you can choose how it will be cropped.

Forum

  • Categories!  Yes, forums have had categories since dinosaurs roamed the planet, so we missed the boat until now.  But we took it a step further... any post you make can be targeted at either a specific city, or to everyone.  So, if you're posting about new orleans theater, you can make it so that only people filtering by New Orleans will see it.   An entire category can be location specific as well.  Ex: The Cahill Archives will only show up if you are set to the New Orleans area.

  • Don't forget the ignore button - If you don't want to listen to someone, don't complain to us, just ignore them.   Under every person's name in a forum post, you can click 'ignore', and you will no longer see posts or topics from that person.  You can also now remove someone from your ignore list if you suddenly decide that you like them again.

  • You can use a simple rich text editor for your forum posts now.  All the links, bolds, italics and smileys you can handle

  • You can EDIT your own post after you've submitted it.  You cannot change the topic title, but you can edit the body of your post.

Show Listings

  • Now On Stage has changed to 'On Stage This Week' - now you'll know at a glance what's open AND what's opening this weekend.

  • When adding a run to a show, you can now specify that it is an 'Open Run' - meaning that it has no set closing date.

What's on the horizon

Here are some features, in order of importance, that will be added in the near future:

  • Lots of data
In the background, we will have a team working on entering as much current show data as humanly possible from lots of cities across the country (and the globe).  Probably starting with New York.

  • Notifications
Basically, if anyone makes a change on any show that you created or are involved in, you will be notified.  This will help you make sure your pages are accurate.

  • Show times
If we make a box where you can enter show times, people will come

  • Better Search
Right now the built in site-search is kind of sketchy.  We'll probably switch to the google search engine.

  • Searchable profiles
People like directors and casting agents will be able to search the site by specific profile details (Looking for a male in his mid-30's who can tap)

  • Comments
Leave comments on show and person pages.

  • Avatars
You can pick a different picture besides your headshot to show in the forum (and in comments)

  • Fan club
Kind of like friends on myspace / facebook.  You can follow what your fans are up to and vice-versa.

  • Friendly URLs
Instead of telling someone your stageclick page is www.stageclick.com/person/5238723847.aspx , you'll be able to give out something reasonable like: www.stageclick.com/marc_fouchi

  • and the list goes on and on and on....

Thanks so much for supporting the site over the last 9 months.  We're growing by leaps and bounds - the site averages over 500,000 page views every month!
Please let us know about any problems or new features you'd like to see!

I just fixed an issue where StageClick would not remember your city after you've closed your browser and you've chosen to stay logged in.  I can see how that would get frustrating to have to keep typing in your city every time you visit.

Thanks to Carlos Gonzalez for pointing that out.
