“Theatricum’s spectacular outdoor venue in the middle of Topanga Canyon is the perfect place for parents and kids to enjoy these great children’s artists,” says Alsop. “Each concert becomes a unique adventure. It’s something you can't get just sitting in front of a TV.”
An award-winning singer/songwriter, lecturer and humorist, Alsop has been curating the Kids Koncerts series every summer since 1992, a reflection of Theatricum's ongoing commitment to arts education, young audiences and local artists.
Peter Alsop’s Kids Koncerts take place on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m., July 12 through Sept. 27 (dark July 19, July 26 and Aug. 9). Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum is located at 1419 North Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Topanga, midway between Malibu and the San Fernando Valley. Tickets are $10 for ages 2 and up (under 2 free). Sundays at 10:30 a.m.: July 12: Love Bug & Me – Sing, dance and let imagination soar with classic kid songs that promote interaction, integration and whole lot of good wholesome fun. August 2: Heidi Swedberg – Join the “ukulele lady” as she turns this plucky Hawaiian musical instrument into a creative opportunity for children to appreciate music and art. Aug. 16: Tom Freund – Singer/songwriter and father performs playful, eco-conscious songs from his 2007 CD “Hug Trees” inspired by his daughter. Folk music for families! Come for a hootenanny and enjoy a mix of American music styles including folk, country, blues and jazz. Aug. 23: Nathalia – Sing along in Spanish with Nathalia, whose bright and bouncy tunes make it easy for the family to learn a new language. Aug. 30: David Tobocman – Emmy-nominated composer and musician for TV/film brings high-energy with an emphasis on movement to his sweetly thoughtful original songs about growing up. Sept. 13: Evo Bluestein – Get the whole family dancin’ with multi-instrumentalist musician, folk singer and clogger combining Appalachian-style tradition with humor and a heap of toe-tappin’ fun. Sept. 20: Rhythm Child – Norman Jones beats his drums and plays soulful rhythms, making “music for parents that kids can understand.” Winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest Grand Prize, and recipient of a National Parenting Publication Gold Award, a Citation from the Los Angeles City Council — and an invitation to play at The White House! Sept. 27: Peter Alsop – Laugh-along, silly, sing-along fun! Kids love Peter's dee-lightfully funny songs, and he's known across the country for his healthy, insightful messages for parents and kids.
