River City Repertory Theatre made history when it opened Lillian Hellman's THE LITTLE FOXES on June 29 2006, becoming the first Actors' Equity sanctioned, professional theatre company in the history of the Shreveport-Bossier area. As a matter of record, we're also the first professional theatre to exist in the northern part of our State!

At present, with no theatre space to call our own, River City Rep is staging productions at The Strand Theatre or The Scottish Rite Cathedral. The Strand, the area’s entertainment “jewel,” is located in downtown Shreveport in the newly designated “West Edge” arts district. The beautiful, opulent theatre was built in
1924 and is the home for the many Broadway touring shows that play the area.

River City Rep will use the theatre for stagings of larger musicals. The Scottish Rite Cathedral, built in 1917, offers an ornate, yet smaller more intimate venue, on its second floor level. The theatre space is perfect for dramas and comedies that
require a closer relationship with the audience.

River City Rep, through its association with Actors' Equity, the national organization for theatre professionals, blends the best of local and national talent.

River City Rep is a traditionally structured, not-for-profit organization, founded by some of Shreveport's most admired and honored theatrical talents - Patric McWilliams, Anne Gremillion, Seva May, Jim Montgomery, Robert Buseick, Ruth Doreck, John Gayle, Edwin and Candace Higginbotham, Jodie Glorioso, Ashley
Beckham -- and governed by a community-based board of directors.

River City Rep opens the door to a multitude of opportunities for our local students and actors who wish to pursue careers in theatre, while also featuring guest actors, directors and designers from across the nation. The best theatre practitioners from the region can now develop their art right here in North
Louisiana, thus contributing to our state's cultural economy. By tapping into an incredibly deep talent pool, River City Rep also benefits the growing film industry in Louisiana. Patrons can now experience the highest caliber of professional theatre -- right here in Shreveport!
