Bay Area Local Theatre Group Presents The Laramie Project

American Legion Hall, Downtown Larkspur, June 3-18

Larkspur, CA, May 25th, 2011. The Laramie Project is a dramatic play written in 2001 by Moisés Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theater Project.

The play, which is based on interviews with various citizens of the town, tells the story of the aftermath of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.

Robin and James Hurwitz, co-founders of the independent, Marin-based, Theatre-at-Large, a 501c(3) company, are putting on this local production of The Laramie Project.   Half of the proceeds after expenses will be donated to The Matthew Shepard Foundation and The Mary Mason Lemonade Fund at Theatre Bay Area.

“The play is most commonly done by high-school students,” says producer Robin Hurwitz. “This is a rare chance to see this moving work performed by adults.”

James Hurwitz, who is directing the play, says the cast was hand-picked. “Rather than hold auditions, Robin and I decided to invite actors we had worked with over the years and who we felt could bring the depth of feeling to this we were looking for,” he says.

The Marin and Sonoma cast is comprised of four women and four men, who play at least seven different characters each during the play. Between them, the eight actors have been in 155 plays and 68 musicals and directed 45 plays.

“I’ve been wanting to do this play forever,” says veteran Marin actor/producer/director Kim Bromley. “I’m delighted to have the chance to be part of this important play and work with this talented cast.”
