Saturday September 3, 2005

Michael P. Cahill
September 4, 2010
This is Michael Cahill, almost midnight on Saturday September 3, 2005, from Keller, TX.
This is my fourth report on the status of the New Orleans Theater Community.
Today, I have tried to retrench, as information has come in a variety of ways.
So, I have tried to organize the address book, so that we are all on the same page...and, if I can, I will try to combine the first three reports and resend them now to everyone on my list (along with information on financial matters, info on pets, and the report from inside the Times-Picayune) so that everyone will have it all. Please bear with me.
Of course, I’d like to thank everyone for contributing information of any kind. Should you receive the Reports 1, 2, and 3, please remember that they started on Tuesday and some of the information may have later been updated. I probably won’t be editing them.
Some updates are good, such as Perry Martin was lost, but now is FOUND, was blind, but now...well, he’s still blind...but he is safe. Details are sketchy and we’re not sure if he actually embarked on his trek across the CCC to the West Bank...but, aided by one of Roch Eshleman’s True Brew bartenders, Perry made it on to a bus headed for Baton Rouge. Once there, he was rescued by his brother and sister-in-law and rushed to the safety of Lafourche Parish. Whew.
Angie Joachim is in Birmingham, headed to New York.
Tom Cucullu was in Arkansas, headed to Charlotte, NC.
Bryan Wagar is in Shreveport.
Gary Rucker is in Baton Rouge.
Ron Bermingham is in Duluth, MN, near Canada.
Misha Kachkachishvili is in New York, 646-555-1126.
Davis Barron is in Atlanta, 770-555-0453.
Gary Solomon is in Baton Rouge, and will probably be in New York within the week.
Matthew Ragas is in Baton Rouge.
Roy Haylock is in Baton Rouge.
Linda Fried is in Thomasville, GA.
Ann Marie Pinkney is in Mississippi.
Dan & Trish Zimmer are in Houston. His cell is 832-555-9579. He thinks there is water in his house but it is still standing. On Saturday, he went to the Astrodome to try to find anyone he knew...without success...though he will try to sneak back in on Sunday. He said it is cramped and crowded but it sounds a thousand times better than the Superdome. He reports that people trying to locate evacuees to Houston might contact: www. familymessages. org.
Joan Long is in Lafayette.
Steve Marlbrough is in West Monroe. Call 318-555-6000, room 227; or his cell 985-555-4324.
Patrick Shannon is in Houston, heading to New York. You may know his e-address was nedcat, named after his beloved cat. Ned the cat died Saturday as the storm approached.
Al Shea got out on a bus with residents of Maison Hospitalier. He is headed to his son Scott Shea’s house in Los Angeles and may go on to Las Vegas.
Again, Roch Eshleman is relocating to Plaquemine, near Baton Rouge, until Carol gives birth to little Don Vito (I’m making this up). Cell 501-555-2629, or 225-555-3334.
Veleka Grey is in Baton Rouge. She thinks her house survived.
Denise & Manuel Ponce were heading to Thibodaux, so as to be close to the West Bank to get in as soon as possible once it opens. They may be reached at 985-555-1434. Manuel’s cell: 504-555-1517. Denise (Schwark)’s cell: 504-555-4162.
Tracey, Niki, and Bobbie Collins are in Baton Rouge (via Monroe), where they will stay indefinitely.
Lary Hesdorffer and Eduardo Jimenez are in Atlanta. (Gee, I don’t envy Lary’s job [with the Vieux Carre Commission].)
Walter Bost is with relatives in North Carolina.
Peter Gabb and Carol took the Last Train To Clarksdale [MS].
Mark Burton and Kyle Daigrepont are in Baton Rouge.
On Saturday, Mark and Kyle had dinner with Kris Shaw, who proclaimed he would not be evacuating (maybe he found refuge at the Children’s Hospital?).
Jefferson Turner is in Baton Rouge.
Marc Fouchi, Kelly Hirling, and Tess are with extended family in Lafayette, but may try to relocate to Baton Rouge or Jackson. We hope the expecting Kelly is alright. (Maybe Marc can put these updates on www. nolatheater. com?)
Andee Reed is in Atlanta.
Dane Evans and Charley Khoury are in Lake Charles.
Flo Presti and father are at the Day’s Inn in Longview, TX. They intend to go to Covington when power is restored. Flo’s cell is 985-555-6776.
Stella Curtis & Buff Colomb are in Humble, TX, near Houston. The rest of her family are in Monroe. She thinks their houses survived.
Harry Mayronne, who can be reached at 205-555-8948, has two cats stranded at his apartment in the French Quarter. (I think I have info on how to rescue pets...later.)
Chris, Lisa, and Katherine Carey are in Archibald, MS.
Michael Arata is in Los Angeles.
Trina Beck made it to Chicago.
Pat Bourgeois is in New Roads.
Greg Stratton is in Lake Charles.
Robert Richardson is in Jackson, and may head to Amarillo.
Trish Denmark and Gavin Mahlie are in Houston, and may head to Dallas.
At last report, Fats Domino was safe and in Baton Rouge.
Apparently, Charmaine Neville commandeered a bus to get refugees out.
Friday night, NBC-TV and Red Cross held a charity concert with Harry Connick, Jr., Aaron Neville, Charles (or was it Cyril) Neville, Wynton Marsalis, and John Goodman. Aaron, of course, sang "Louisiana 1927." There was some unplanned, unscripted "editorializing." Thank goodness it didn’t come from any of the real New Orleanians.
Last, but not least, Mikko "Jack Kerouac" Macchione and TatiAnna survived a long trek to Houston, where they joined a band of strolling players to perform Juggling For Jesus for hurricane refugees. They then hopped a bus for a 20 hour ride to San Miguel, Mexico. (The latest unconfirmed reports claim that Mikko "shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.")
As far as can be determined, none of us has been injured physically. Those that may still be in New Orleans, however, include Sonny Borey, Derek Franklin, Kris Shaw, Veronica Russell, and there are many we haven’t heard from.
Mark McLaughlin stayed in town. He survived the storm, but hasn’t been heard from since Monday.
Abby Lake fears her cats may not have survived.
Barret O’Brien’s dog Fletch was rescued.
At last report, Janet’s dog Hamlet was still with the lady at my house in Metairie. She had water delivered to her today. At this point, she may stay for the "duration"....
You can get further info from WWLTV.com or NOLA.com and Lary Hesdorffer suggest checking ncs.woc.nosa.gov for satellite aerial views of the city, which may also be on wwltv.com.
One of the places to check for animal rescues is katrinaanimalrescue@ yahoo.com or 1-225-555-6111. There are others, SPCA. The cats of Harry Mayronne and Abby Lake are still in danger.
We hear that Orleans, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines are closed. The river Parishes and perhaps the Northshore have been opened. Janet & I hope to get back to Jefferson Parish soon. The info on that has been contradictory...but sometime between Monday and Thursday....
We’ll do the best we can.
I hope all this goes through and, until later,
MIKE CAHILL
