‘A History of Comedy’ is a parody of the 1980 television series ‘Cosmos’. In ‘A History of Comedy’, Carl Sagan will guide us from the beginning of man’s time on Earth to today. Along the way, the audience will learn about the origins of humor and see how cavemen used to joke. We’ll see how comedy originated in antiquity, grew in literature, and matured in theater. We’ll get to see the progression of staged comedy from Shakespeare to Vaudeville to standup comedy to being filmed. Eventually, we’ll see the evolution of improv comedy, and finishing up with the effects the internet had on comedy. Throughout our journey, live comedy acts will showcase some of these periods of time.
