The Civil War begins and American society is forever changed. Seeds of hope are taking hold in the hearts of a boy and a girl determined to be more than just friends, and a household built on unwavering tradition is caught in the maelstrom. Might the stars align for the birth of a new equality, and for two people fighting for their future together? This World Premiere guest production at the Odyssey Theatre is based on the book by an acclaimed writer who is often heralded for capturing the essence of racial equality issues in historical fiction. This total theatre experience communicates throughout the narrative with instruments, singing, and choreography, the sweeping events that formed our country during the Civil War, along with intimate details of a poignant love story. "Over a century has passed since George Santayana warned us that 'those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it,’ yet our nation fails to eliminate racism. This is a lesson we should have all learned from our Civil War. When Stars Align is a tale of love and racial hatreds arising from that war and its aftermath. Its characters ring as true today as they did then” - Carole Eglash-Kosoff; Playwright CAROLE EGLASH-KOSOFF (Playwright) has spent her life writing, teaching, and traveling to more than seventy countries. Her play and book, “The Human Spirit – Apartheid’s Unheralded Heroes,” was inspired by two-years of teaching in South Africa, profits were donated to Ikamva Labantu and other South African charities. By One Vote, one of Carole’s most recent books, chronicles twelve true stories of events that shaped American history as the result of a single deciding vote. Carole has established a scholarship program called “A Better Way,” which provides funds and mentoring for high school students working to achieve a college degree.
