Featuring MARGEAUX FANNING*, KATHRYN TALBOT*, MARY PAULEY* and DANIEL SCHUBERT-SKELLY* Directed by JENNIFER GROWDEN* Set design by SEAN CREEL Assistant directed by AURA BISHOP* Stage managed by STACIE LeJEUNE* Sound design by ANDY NIEMANN* Props by ASHTON AKRIDGE* Makeup design by ERIC MARTIN WEBB* Production assistance by MICHAEL MARTIN* Original artwork by JANE TALTON [*Members of Four Humours Theater.] At the fantastical Cocaloony Bay, "the southernmost point of Terra Firma," gossip columnist Polly is searching for a scoop. Although normally Polly provides "the southernmost write-up of the southernmost gangbang" between lectures to the Audubon Society on the terrible cocaloony bird, today she's digging up the truth about Molly's boarding house, a place where "the dark angel checks the residents' dog tags" at night. Those residents include the self-explanatory Permanent Transient; Injun Joe, a blond-pigtailed wet dream of a fake Native American; and the Gnadiges Fraulein herself, a washed-up vaudevillian who in her heyday entertained the crowned heads of Europe by catching fish in her mouth.
Nowadays the poor battered Fraulein, sometimes with the protection of Joe, survives by beating the cocaloony birds to the fish in the bay. She doesn't always succeed: A vengeful cocaloony has already taken out one of her eyes. Ensconced in their orgasmic rocking chairs, Polly and Molly parry and preen, alternately admiring the Fraulein for her "best stage soliloquy since Hamlet," and evading the dangerous cocaloony bird that swoops and dives just above their heads. THE GNÄDIGES FRÄULEIN, a demented plaint on the trials of the artist, is packed with Tennessee Williams poetry at its most gorgeous and surreal. It's also one giant step forward for Four Humours Theater, since our acclaimed production of Samuel Beckett's "Happy Days"...the troupe's first venture into explosive comic absurdism. We are still doing what we do outdoors, though. Four Humours is delighted to return to the cozy neighborhood Clouet Park, where we produced last year the first installment of our annual new directors showcase, "The Park Bench Plays." Concessions will be available, but bring something comfy to sit on. THE GNÄDIGES FRÄULEIN by Tennessee Williams June 15-30, Fridays & Saturdays 6pm at Clouet Park, on Clouet between Royal & Dauphine $12 Information 504.948.4167 or fourhumourstheater@gmail.com
