What happens to a person when her entire life is pulled out from under her? A concierge who lives to serve finds herself strangely alone in the hotel lobby where she’s worked for years. Seeking solace, she begins to create the people who should grace the empty grand foyer. La Concierge Solitaire was conceived by Matthew Morris while working alone as a desk clerk at a seaside resort in Florida. Faced with so much time alone, without customers, he began to ponder where the human psyche would take someone charged with so much purpose and so little to do. The resulting piece is a comedic drama with one actor. La Concierge Solitaire was written and developed in 2011, including an apartment workshop of the production. The New Orleans Fringe Festival will be its first time before a public audience. A tour de force, New Orleans actress Cecile Monteyne takes on the role of La Concierge Solitaire. Cecile’s local credits include The Future is a Fancyland Place with Cripple Creek and Goat in the Road Productions, Chekhov’s Wild Ride with ArtSpot, and the Tennessee Williams Festival at Southern Rep Theatre. She appeared in Some Editing and Some Theme Music, which played at Fringe NYC and the New Orleans Fringe Festival. Cecile has worked extensively in the improv scene in New York, London and now in her hometown, New Orleans, with The New Movement. The St. Francisville Transitory Theatre is led by Producer James Lanius III and Artistic Director Andrew Farrier. Since 2005 SFTT has been producing high quality community theatre in the little town of St. Francisville and around Louisiana. Their productions included The Tempest, Ten Little Indians and You Can’t Take It With You. SFTT has also created a number of originals pieces. In 2009 at Le Chat Noir they presented an adaptation of Charles Mee’s Bobrauschenbergamerica. The Dramaturg is Helen Jaksch and the Stage Manager is Matt Standley. Production design by James Lanius III. La Concierge Soliatire is part of the “Bring Your Own Venue” circuit of the New Orleans Fringe Festival.
