The classic tale by Carlo Collodi, as written for the stage by Johnny Simons, and brought to life in classic-stye commedia del arte theatrics. Half Masques, fantastic stage props, colorful costumes and traveling tent backdrops were used to tell the tale of the little wooden marrionette who had to prove himself in order to become a real boy to the delight of audiences 5 times a day in the Italian Village of the 1984 New Orleans World's Fair.
The performers also took part in the daily Mardi Gras style parade tossing red and green doubloons minted specifically for the Italian Village. Special performances were added and given for the World's Puppetry Association which gathered puppet troupes from across the globe for several weeks and was a favorite of Jim Henson, who could be seen coming to as many performances as his involvement with the Muppets at the special event would allow. The show ran throughout the World's Fair and closed a few weeks before the fair shuttered it's doors racking up well over a thousand performances or more in the sweltering heat of a New Orleans summer!
