FRESH VOICES: a year round theatre program which promotes arts and entertainment for youth and emerging artists is producing its second annual summer camp. The culminating event for this year’s camp is “Porgy” by Du Bose and Dorothy Heyward.
The play is the precursor to the Gershwin opera “Porgy and Bess.” “PORGY” was the first Broadway production to present a serious look at black life and is based on real characters and situations in Charleston, SC. It was one of the largest shows on Broadway with a run of over 357 days before it was “put to bed” in 1927. A production of “PORGY” has never been down in New Orleans or the Southeastern Region.
