Abandoned by her philandering husband in an apartment he stripped of everything except a mattress, agoraphobic young socialite Ata Windust is living on endless Dr Pepper and pizza, and spending hours sharpening pencils for comfort. Ata is already near a breakdown when Bo, an armed burglar and grifter, breaks in in the middle of the night. Bo and her crony Robbie had cased the apartment when Ata still had her belongings, and Bo's frustration at their being nothing left to steal is intense. That frustration doesn't compare to the panic she feels when Ata unexpectedly turns the tables on the intruder, obtaining the gun and demanding that Bo tie herself up.
So begins Jane Martin's dark comedy CRIMINAL HEARTS, a nervy comedy about the two women as they negotiate a truce, with their demons and with each other. When Bo proposes that they all team up to go rob Ata's control freak husband Wib, her life of crime offers Ata a way out of neurotic isolation... if Ata can overcome her qualms and summon the strength to leave the apartment.
Four Humours presents this local premiere at the ELM THEATRE, 220 Julia Street, for two weekends only. The cast includes company members KELLIE GLEASON as Ata and MARGEAUX FANNING as Bo, with DAVID ANTHONY COLE as Wib and EZRA ALAN NELSON, in his debut, as Robbie. The show is directed by MICHAEL MARTIN and managed by BLAKE BUCHERT, both members of Four Humours.
