About the Performance Sunday is the most segregated day in America. Go Ye Therefore… is a story about two southern women — one white, one black, both daughters and granddaughters of Baptist preachers — rooted in different racial and cultural worship traditions. New Orleans native Kathy Randels and first generation Zimbabwean-American Rebecca Mwase trouble the waters of their Baptist upbringings in search of spirituality’s truth, revel in the unifying joy of song, and explore the tenuous history of the Missionary and the Native.
In celebration of 15 years of making original theatre in New Orleans, ArtSpot Productions — coproducers of last fall’s award-winning theatrical experience Loup Garou — proudly announces our newest performance, Go Ye Therefore… Part theater, part revival, part pilgrimage, this theatrical baptism takes place Thursdays through Sundays from May 14 through June 6 at 5168 St. Roch Avenue in Gentilly, a pastoral haven of creativity and community in the midst of a rebuilding neighborhood. All are welcome, but because seating is limited, reservations are required.
Free food and post-show discussions follow each Friday night performance. The scheduled topics are: May 14 Fri (Discussion: Randels/Mwase Families) May 21 Fri (Discussion: Women Spiritual Leaders) May 28 Fri (Discussion: Baptist Preachers in New Orleans) June 4 Fri (Discussion: The Creative Process)
