The New Orleans premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Margaret Edson, "Wit" tells the story of a solitary professor of metaphysical poetry, Dr. Vivian Bearing (Adrianna Bate). She is told by her doctor (Rex Badeaux) that she has Phase IV ovarian cancer. She is checked into the hospital for treatment and discovers that her attending physician (Vatican Lokey) is one of her former students. Her life story, her treatment and her impact on the world around her are told in flashbacks and late-night talks with Sue (Amy Alvarez). The production was directed by Bert Pigg.
The first performance was a benefit for the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans, and was attended by members of the original Broadway cast.
