The Apple Tree is trio of playlet musicals cleverly revolving around the themes of temptation and knowledge. The first of these, ‘The Diary of Adam and Eve,’ based on the Mark Twain play, tells in a hysterical, modern vernacular of the highs and lows of the world’s first man and woman as they literally invent The Battle of the Sexes. Second, ‘The Lady or the Tiger,’ based on Frank R. Stockton’s short story, tells of a barbaric kingdom, where a vivacious princess must choose between sending her secret lover into the jaws of a hungry tiger or the arms of another woman. Lastly ‘Passionella’, based on a short story by Jules Feiffer, recounts a modern-day Cinderella story where fame and fortune do not turn out to be as wonderful as they seem.
