Based on the original story by Mary Orr and the film adaptation "All About Eve", "Applause" is set in the splashy, trashy world of 1970 New York, and focuses on stage and film star Margo Channing (Beverly Trask), who takes in a seemingly adoring fan named Eve Harrington (Heidi Jensen). Slowly, Eve takes over the major parts of Margo's life on her way to the top, despite the warnings of her confidant and hairdresser Duane Fox (Edward R. Cox). The production is best remembered for the star performance of Heidi Jensen, and as the breakout role for Cynthia Owen who sang the title number. Book by Betty Comden & Adolph Green, Music by Charles Strouse, Lyrics by Lee Adams
