Synopsis: In a shabby New England motel, 3 members of a NY theatre group have arrived with a scheme...as the evening darkens and unravels, so do their ambitions and secrets. This dark comedy--from Pulitzer-nominee Adam Rapp (Red Light Winter, Nocturne)--is a visceral, provocative, oddball piece about a group of artists desperately trying to force a place for themselves and how far they will go to get what they want. For mature audiences.
This West-Coast premiere marks the debut of Rogue Machine Off the Clock, our late-night series of bold, taut, intoxicating theatrical concoctions for the artistic artistically daring crowd.
NY Times quote:
"The ideas and sometimes the actors ricochet around the stage with such energy and scattershot purpose in Adam Rapp's Bingo with the Indians that they might be in a pinball machine. A dark comedy that starts with a sitcom premise and finally evokes questions about the meaning of life, the play spins out of control, but that forgivable chaos comes from a writer who hasn't reined in his overabundance of ideas.
Bingo with the Indians explores themes that run through other Rapp plays (most prominently, Red Light Winter): how far will people go to get what they want; how they face desires they barely knew they had; how grief seeps to the surface, and pent up rage explodes." --Caryn James, The New York Times
The plays history
Bingo with the Indians was originally produced at the Flea Theatre in NYC in the fall of 2007, directed by the playwright himself for the group of 20-something actors in the Flea's company. Rogue Machine's is its first production anywhere else.
