Rinse & Repeat is a site-specific, environmental performance work created as a part of On Piety (www.onpiety.com), a warehouse exhibition space in the Bywater that will feature seven large-scale, sculptural installations from Nov. 08 -Feb. 09. The performance piece aims to highlight, distill and theatricalize the relationship between On Piety's installations, the physical space that contains them, and those who visit it.
Rinse & Repeat's theatrical activity bubbles up among, and emerges from, the crowd; dissipates back into the 'normal' gallery-going activity; and, a few minutes later, enlivens the space again.
The entire performance loops repeatedly, as gallery visitors wander in and out of the space. Employing humor and absurdity, Rinse & Repeat hopes to fold in all levels of response that visitors may have upon viewing the Katrina-inspired installations – from grave reflection to indifference to Katrina-fatigued exasperation.
