Bah humbug! I hate Christmas! I hate children!
These phrases will be heard echoing through the Melon Patch Playhouse this December as director John J. Turcotte proudly presents... Scrooge - The Musical.
In 1979 writer-composer-lyricist Leslie Bricusse based his film musical Scrooge on the classic Dickens tale A Christmas Carol. Bricusse later adapted his creation for the stage, and in 1996 Scrooge - The Musical opened at The Dominion Theater in London starring Anthony Newley in the title role. Now the Melon Patch Players bring this uplifting Christmas classic to our stage for you and your family's enjoyment.
Our version of this traditional tale stars the wonderful Don Campbell as the miserly Scrooge who is taken on a journey into the night to find Christmas, a thing that he had lost long ago. Andre Provencher and Chasteen Mullens will be heading the always optimistic Cratchit household as Bob and Ethel Cratchit, with Jonathan McDonnell as Tiny Tim. Rounding out the large Cratchit family are Bayli Silberstein, Jonathan Campbell and Jennifer Tolsch. Scrooge's nephew, his only living relative, will be portrayed by Ted Miraglia. Jerrod Baxter will make an appearance as the young Ebenezer and Emily Miraglia will be playing the young Ebenezer's love interest, Isabel.
No retelling of this story would be complete without ghosts, and we have four of them who will be haunting The Melon Patch Playhouse this Christmas. The Ghost of Christmas Past is portrayed by Sylvia Vicchiullo and the Ghost of Christmas present is portrayed by Melon Patch newcomer Tom Mitchell. Hank DeLorme will be doubly haunting us by portraying both the Ghost of Christmas Future and Jacob Marley, Scrooge's long deceased partner. Are you afraid of Ghosts? We will try not to scare you - too much!
As the Ghosts wisk Scrooge through the night, they encounter many inhabitants of his past, present and future Christmases. The street urchins are played by Daniel Olsen and Megan Souter. Michael Winternheimer portrays the soup peddler Tom Jenkins, and Stephen and Laney Smith are Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig. The ensemble includes Kelly Zipperer, Diane Boorum, Mina Kirkland, Ian Robinson, Christina Vicchiullo, Erica Silberstein, Denise Glickler, Scott Stewart, Sara Evans, Joyce Cares, Katie Watson, Donna Smith, Kristian Norris, Sy and Edie Loss, RuthAnn Proch and Mark Medley. These wonderful people sing, dance and portray all the the villagers and characters in Scrooge's memories. God Bless Them One And All!
A large musical like this does not come together without the help of many talented people. Director John Turcotte has surrounded himself with the best. His Assistant Director is Jerrod Baxter, his Musical Director/Accompanist is Linda Charlton, his Choreographer is Sally Gage, and he is thrilled to welcome newcomer Kate Campbell as his Costume Mistress. Properties will be handled by Pauline Judge.
