A distinctly New Orleans retelling of the classic tale of "The Nutcracker", prodigiously talented Ricky Graham wrote and yet another local musical treasure alongside his frequent collaborators Bob Bruce and the NORD Theatre's creator and guiding force for more than 30 years, Ty Tracy.
"While it ain't exactly the Nutcracker" exclaimed theatre reviewer David Cuthbert in the Times-Picayune, audiences enjoyed the distinctive Graham slant on the storyline, which utilized the concept of a play within a play.
Sadly, this was to be Ty Tracy's last production. The beloved director and producer of the theatre in Gallier Hall passed away suddenly a few days before Christmas, leaving behind an enviable theatrical legacy that helped form the careers of both local and international performers and ending an era in the community's theatrical history. Fittingly, Ty Tracy laid in state in Gallier Hall (a distinct honor given in deference to his contributions to the city;)NORD Theatre is now called the Ty Tracy Memorial Theatre and is home to the stalwart Julie Condy and her Crescent City Lights young actor's theatre company.
