In June of this year, several Midwest towns were severely flooded when their levees topped or breached due to heavy rains. No one understands like New Orleanians what challenges lie ahead for these folks. Of particular concern to us are the theater artists there because it will take time to dry out and repair stages so they can get back to work. Le Chat Noir, the Contemporary Arts Center and seven talented young cabaret performers want to help these fellow artists-in-need. So Amy Alvarez, Rich Arnold, Trina Beck, Lisa Picone, Anais St. John, Jessie Terrebonne and Jefferson Turner are putting on a fantastic one-night-only benefit show. One of them, Lisa Picone said “I received money from a similar benefit concert titled HeartSong: A Concert for New Orleans (presented in New York City by national cabaret stars after Katrina). Count me in…I want to ‘pay it forward’ and help my Midwestern counterparts get back on their feet!”
We’re in touch with the Department of Cultural Affairs there to make sure these monies get directly to the theater community in the hardest hit Iowa communities.
Show Tickets may be purchased by calling 581-5812 or online from www.cabaretlechatnoir.com. Donations may be made securely online from www.cabaretlechatnoir.com.
Other New Orleans theaters are donating season passes or theatre tickets for a raffle. By Monday, July 28, details will be available at www.cabaretlechatnoir.com. Le Chat Noir is located at 715 St. Charles Avenue in downtown New Orleans. Parking next door for $2.
