"Nighthawks" is a full-length play in two parts, suggested by the well-known Edward Hopper painting of the same title. The locale is a diner in an unnamed city.
The first act, entitled "Nighthawks", is set in 1943, and is a mood piece deliberately stylized in the film noir sensibilities of the period.
The second act, "The Night Cafe", takes place on an early Saturday morning in 1983 and is naturalistic. It probes stereotypes of certain relationships and how we perceive them.
The play explores themes of isolation, loneliness, and the hoped-for connection to be found in creating new “families”.
Electric... Pitch-perfect... The acting is uniformly excellent... Timm Holt's evocative setting, costume and lighting design are first-rate... Nighthawks deserves an audience. - Times-Picayune
One of [Marigny Theatre’s] best productions to date... Intense... A remarkable piece of theatre... Unforgettable... Raw, honest and amazing... Nighthawks is the play to see! It’s exemplary. - Ambush Magazine
