A.C.T.'s Master of Fine Arts Program and Young Conservatory Present The Wendy Play
“The Wendy Play continues A.C.T.’s commitment to new works, and to integrating teaching, learning, and performing in our training programs,” says Smith. “Looking around at the multigenerational dynamic of our students at A.C.T., Craig and I have both felt compelled to explore ways in which the journey could be bridged somehow between the M.F.A. Program and the YC.” Slaight adds, “Melissa and I have felt for years that interaction among our top journeyman actors, the M.F.A. Program students, and teenagers in transition is tremendously productive and healthy. And when [head of Yale’s M.F.A. playwriting program], Richard Nelson, recommended Amy Herzog’s amazing new work to Melissa, she shared it with me and we both looked at it as a perfect opportunity to integrate the two programs. Not only is Amy’s work funny and poignant, but because the play deals with a graduate student in the arts teaching at a summer conservatory, it just seemed like a journey the conservatory couldn’t resist.”
