NEW ORLEANS, LA – The NOLA Project presents Assassins, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s dark musical comedy.
In an abandoned fairground, nine presidential assassins and would-be assassins gather to reenact their tales of disillusionment, outrage, and dreams gone awry. Each culminates in the brutal and infamous act of assassination, an act both highly disturbing and undeniably American. The musical will feature some of New Orleans greatest stage talents, including Ricky Graham, Jimmy Murphy, Gary Rucker, Vatican Lokey, and Lisa Picone amongst many others. The musical, never before seen as a professional production in New Orleans, will be directed by NOLA Project company member A.J. Allegra. Says Allegra, “This is a hilarious and disturbing musical about individuals who when they don’t get the dreams they’ve been promised, take the worst kind of consolation prize: The life of their nation’s president. And considering the approaching historic election, I cannot think of a more timely and relevant musical for our company to take on.”
The show will run Friday and Saturday October 17 and 18 at 7pm and Sunday, October 19 at 1pm. The next weekend, October 24-26, the show will run on Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. The final weekend, showtimes are at 8pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 17-November 1. There is no Sunday performance on November 2. All performances take place at Muriel’s Cabaret Theatre at Le Petit Theatre. Tickets will be $25 and can be reserved by calling the box office at 504.522.2087.
