In the Irish backwater of Leenane, two brothers live to torment each other, quarreling over everything from potato chips to a sexy teenage bootlegger to what kind of hors d'oeurves to have at their father's funeral. Father Welsh, the gloomy and tipsy parish priest, tries to prevent their sibling rivalry from exploding as it must into a hilarious and brutal climax.
This production of The Lonesome West reunites director Ken Webster (B. Iden Payne Award for Outstanding Director for The Pillowman) and actor Jude Hickey (B. Iden Payne Award nominee for The Pillowman) on another Martin McDonagh play. The Austin Chronicle said of that production "Few plays can make one actually gasp out loud in astonishment. McDonagh's work manages it every time."
The Lonesome West was nominated for a Tony as best play on Broadway, McDonagh's third Best Play nomination.
McDonagh won an Oscar for his short film, "Six Shooter," and is the writer and director of the current film In Bruges. He is the only playwright since Shakespeare to have four shows running simultaneously in London's West End.
