It is Pittsburgh in 1911, and a mysterious stranger (played by Councilman-At-Large Oliver Thomas who was featured in Two Trains Running, No Niggers, No Jews, No Dogs, and King Hedley II) has arrived with his young daughter (played by 8 year old Chloe Tillis) at a boardinghouse. In a world still troubled by the marks of slavery the stranger’s search for his wife (played by Valencia Williams) and the life he knew many years before becomes a much deeper pursuit. It shakes the peaceful household as he nears the end of this tormented journey.
The plays action takes place in a black Pittsburgh boardinghouse where African-American, only a generation away from slavery, are attempting to construct both free lives and a sense of identity. The boardinghouse is populated by a fascinating mixture of characters.
