"The Tulane Gilbert and Sullivan Festival Committee was formed in the spring of 1948 for the purpose of planning and presenting a festival of nine shows, three performances each of three popular G&S operas...in October and November 1948....The festival was dedicated to Leon Ryder Maxwell upon the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Gilbert and Sullivan on the campus."
