Sam Payne (U.S.) and Sandra Feusi (Switzerland) have received the highest possible acclaim for their astonishing, sensual “Vertical Tango,” most recently receiving the Silver Medal at the Festival International du Cirque de Monte Carlo. They were awarded a gold medal at the 2005 Festival Mondial de Cirque du Demain in Paris, as well as the Prix de la Ville de Paris, and the Prix du Cirque Eloize. In 2006 they received the Bay Area’s Isadora Duncan “Best Choreography” Award, which marks the first time the award has been given to a circus act. The couple trained for four years with Mr. Lu Yi at the San Francisco Circus Center, toured with the New Pickle Circus for two years, and appeared in the Center’s original full-length show Birdhouse Factory, which they also team directed, produced and choreographed. They hit the road touring worldwide for five years with Cirque du Soleil’s production, Saltimbanco. Sam and Sandra have performed extensively in Europe, recently completing a season with the Granddaddy of European circuses, Switzerland’s Circus Knie.
