Sometime in 2006, Chelle came to me with an article from Entertainment Weekly, which she often does. This time, however, it was not a review of a movie, or a suggest of a great book to read, it was the new section on theatre and the particular article she wanted me to see was about a play called the RABBIT HOLE. It was before the Tony awards and before the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Drama, but David Lindsey-Abaire’s brilliant drama was nevertheless intriguing. We discussed the play and were eager to know if it was something we could do at our theatre. As time would have it, it fell off our radar and we moved forward still producing a show a month. When we began looking at our 2007 Season, we wondered if the rights were even available. We got a copy of the script, read it and knew we had to produce it. Because we couldn’t seem to find out about the rights, we did not use it for our 2007 Season. Finally after another year, we checked in November on 2007 to see if we would be able to obtain the rights. After various phone calls and e-mails, we obtained the rights to produce the show for our Fall 2008 Season. We couldn’t be happier to be the local premiere of this astonishing play. At Actor’s Theatre, we strive to produce original works, comedies, dramas, musicals, and one of the things we are most proud of is local and regional premieres of new plays.

David Lindsay-Abaire’s Rabbit Hole, is teeming with wit, compassion and honesty. Rabbit Hole is a story of family, with beautifully developed relationships that allow us to recognize ourselves in the characters. . .mother, father, husband, wife, daughter, sister. Their bittersweet, rich and funny journey through grief is most of all a story of hope, reminding us of the power of the human spirit to heal and get back to the business of living..
